PETRONAS JV breaks ground for Pengerang biorefinery in Malaysia

Pengerang Biorefinery Sdn. Bhd., a three way partnership between PETRONAS, Enilive S.p.A and Euglena Co., Ltd, marked a key milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for the event of the brand new biorefinery in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia.

The biorefinery can have the processing capability of as much as 650,000 tonnes of renewable feedstock yearly and is projected to supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and bio-naphtha. Feedstocks for the biorefinery will embrace wastes comparable to used vegetable oils and animal fat, and residues from the processing of vegetable oils. The new facility is focused to begin operations by the second half of 2028 in line with the schedule.
