Carlos Alcaraz, the Ibiza-loving tennis superstar from Spain, has kept his dating life largely under wraps. As he prepares to face Italian star Jannik Sinner in the U.S. Open final on Sunday, September 7, no one has identified a current girlfriend — at least not publicly.
The 22-year-old has never been married and has only ever been linked to one named possible girlfriend years ago. Known for his love of partying in Ibiza, Alcaraz still lives at home with his family when he’s not on the tour.
According to USA Today, Emma Raducanu, a women’s tennis pro, sparked rumors about a romantic link to Alcaraz when she watched his Wimbledon match from the stands, but she told reporters that they are just friends. According to TNT Sportsthey developed a connection as young tennis players on the circuit together and are doubles partners.
Radacanu laughed when she was asked about social media claims that they are dating.
“I’m glad the Internet is having fun, and we’re providing entertainment for everyone,” she said. “We go back a long way. I think we started getting to know each other more in 2021.”
The only girlfriend who has ever been named is a woman named Maria Gonzalez Gimenez, who, according to Newsweekplays for his local tennis club in Spain.
That report appears to derive from a photo showing them looking close that ran on Tennis Tonic. The caption read, “I miss you.” That site referred to Gimenez as Alcaraz’s girlfriend, but the story ran in 2022, and there haven’t been any reports of them being together since. The photo, which the site says ran on Alcaraz’s Instagram story, showed him kissing Gimenez on the cheek.
The most candid Alcaraz has gotten about his dating life came in an interview with the Sunday Times.
“Are you in a relationship?” the site asked him, indicating that he blushed “ever so slightly” at the question.
“No, I am single,” he says. “I am looking for someone. It can be difficult as a tennis player to meet the right person because you are travelling all the time.”
“I doubt you will be short of admirers,” the author told him. “I hope so,” he responded.
That interview, which was published when Alcaraz was 21, said he still lives with his mother.
“When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family,” he told the Times. “I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers. To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy. One of the things about tennis is that you travel a lot and my dad and older brother come with me. My older brother is my hitting partner.”
He praised the cooking of his mom, Virginia Garfia.
