If you don’t already comply with Martina Calvi, the self-proclaimed ‘sentimental crafty girl’ and Sydney-based author of The Art of Memory Collectingput together to be impressed.

Martina has been travelling all over the world for the previous 5 weeks, touring her new guide, A Year of Junk Journalingfrom Paris to New York. The guide tour has “really just [been] an excuse to gather our crafty community offline, so we could journal and create together,” she tells me.

Of course, when Martina wasn’t busy creating particular recollections on this journey, she was junk journalling in her downtime. “I challenged myself to use the things I collected while in each city, so I didn’t come home with a whole box of unused ephemera.”

“Taking the time to journal at least once a week really helped me protect my alone time during the book tour, where I got to sit and process everything that was happening,” she explains. “As someone who is quite introverted, I really needed those moments to be alone with my journal, so I could recharge and reflect.”

Her journal grew to become the vessel for all the stickers, papers and junk collected on her journey, or given to her by readers and buddies alongside the best way. Nosey to see how the queen of crafting does it, we requested Martina to indicate us spreads from 5 cities she visited on her travels.

London

Returning to London after a number of years was surreal. It was emotional to indicate my fiance the place I used to stay, and to really feel how a lot I’ve modified. We did a lot of purchasing and sight seeing – I included receipts from Liberty, Harrods, Daunt Books, my favorite stationery retailer Choosing Keeping (the place we held my guide signing) and even used the metro newspaper as my background.

Paris

Who knew Paris was so artful? I felt so warmly welcomed and had essentially the most magical time assembly outdated and new buddies, visiting galleries and outdated guide outlets. I needed to gather completely the whole lot for my journal right here, all of it felt so romantic. My favorite shops have been Melodies Graphiques and L’Ecritoire, and the perfect moments have been spent journaling with buddies at La Mouette Rieuse and Le Mazette.

New York City

Over 900 folks turned as much as the guide launch in NYC, hosted in partnership with Shopify. It was an actual ‘pinch me’ second seeing the road all the best way down Orchard Street! I included NYC stickers, ephemera from my first Knicks recreation, a receipt from the laundromat and stickers from my shops together with PillowCat Books, Greenwich Letterpress, Haricot Vert and extra. I additionally stored receipts and ephemera from Dimes and Rubi Rosa – NYC eating places all the time appear to have the perfect ephemera!

Austin, Texas

People in Austin are among the friendliest and most beneficiant folks I’ve ever met. So many readers made customized stickers and artful creations simply to have a good time the guide! I pasted a bunch in my journal as keepsakes. I’ve a lot gratitude to Paper Craft Pantry, Roommate Collective and First Light Books for internet hosting me and going above and past.

This was my favorite go to to LA but. I spent my days in LA thrifting, visiting property gross sales, having brunch at Chateau Marmont and visiting the Photobooth Museum. I received so many stickers from Crush and Touch and had my occasion with Junkjournalclub THE.

Canberra

I’ve simply accomplished my unfold from the Canberra guide tour cease and now I have to make amends for journal pages from Sydney and Melbourne!
